SIGNAL CAP UPGRADE KITS

Typical silverface signal caps

If you are looking to get the most out of your silverface Fender, it’s a good idea to upgrade the signal caps throughout the circuit.

This upgrade will greatly enhance the clarity, richness & sustain of your amp.

Most silverface Fender amps were manufactured with the navy blue or brick red ITC signal caps pictured here.  These caps tend to be stifling and can be restricting the tone of your amp.  Upgrading the signal caps will greatly enhance and enrich your tone, giving your amp a much more open feel and musical quality.

JUPITER “VINTAGE TONE” PREMIUM CAPACITORS

In our opinion, these are by far the best sounding current production capacitors in vintage Fender amplifier circuits.  We have searched far & wide for caps that come close in tone & performance to the old blue “molded” caps of the blackface Fender era.  Jupiter caps came out on top!

These caps are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED  as top shelf upgrades for silverface Fenders, or as replacements for tweed, blonde, brown, or blackface amps (but only if the original Astrons or blue “molded” caps are damaged or missing)!

Like speakers, your new caps will “break in” with use!  You will hear a major difference in tone when you first put them in, but after 30 hours or so of playing time, you will really notice the “bloom”,  richness & “open” quality your new caps impart to your vintage Fender!

MALLORY 150M SERIES

These caps are our preference for smooth, vintage tone, and our top choice for affordable, great sounding signal caps. Beautiful, lush & sparkly Fender cleans; smooth, round top end; rich, creamy breakup when pushed. They are excellent for those seeking a sweet “vintage Fender” style tone, and are a major improvement over stock silverface caps. 150M caps (with outside foil marked, of course) are our shop standards. Rock & Roll, baby!

SPRAGUE ORANGE DROPS

Some folks just LOVE ‘em.  Crisp, clean, & pure!  These caps provide clean, bright, snappy tone from your amp.  Great for country, twang & chicken’ pickin’!!

Very “Fendery” sound in that clean, country style.

Sprague Orange Drops are high quality signal caps to upgrade your vintage silverface Fender.  Crisp, clean, & snappy.  Great caps for more of a clean, modern, or country sound.  Pure clear tone with plenty of sustain.  We prefer the 150M series for more of a vintage sound and sweeter breakup, but Orange Drops are an old standard and some folks just LOVE ‘em!  We use the higher quality polyester Orange Drops (as opposed to polypropelyne) for warmer, smoother tone.

NOTES:

We prefer to keep the ceramic disk caps in most places in our silverface Fenders. They are a key part of real vintage Fender tone, which is why we do not remove them with our signal cap upgrade kits.

PLEASE NOTE: These signal caps are offered as upgrades for most silverface Fender amps.  If you have a blackface amp or an early silverface with the blue “molded” caps, please keep ‘em in there!  Those caps sound great, rarely go bad, and are a key component of that vintage tone.  These blue “molded” caps first popped up in the later tweed amps.  They can be found in tweed, blond, brown, all blackface and even in early silverface Fender amps.

Before you perform the cap upgrade, please take a good listen to your amp.  Those original caps do have a certain classic “Fendery” sound to them, and if you are happy with the way your amp sounds, keep ‘em in there.  If you are yearning for something more, upgrade!
